WalletHub released its 2021 ranking of public school systems in all 50 states and the District of Columbia on Monday, July 26.
The site said researchers did not just focus on academic performance. Instead, they took a "comprehensive approach," comparing the school systems on 32 metrics.
WalletHub said its study took into account things such as funding, performance, safety, and class size.
Massachusetts students ranked the highest in reading test scores and math test scores. The state also ranked among the top three for the highest median ACT score.
The lowest ranking state on the list was New Mexico, which according to WalletHub was among the states with the lowest reading scores and highest dropout rate.
